Any hostname, www.netutils.net for example,
is translated to an IP address by your ISP's DNS server. This address
acts like a postal address to locate the server that should handle
your request. This utility returns that IP address for the specified
host.
This can also be used to troubleshoot issues related to the DNS server you are using.
